The digital Picture has been able to get a hands on full review of this rare lens

You could do some showing off turning up at a meet with that... current price 120,000 quid! :)

JESSSUSEEE! That is one heck of a lens! "faces recognisable from up to a mile away"!!

Has canon bob got one yet?

Bloody hell, certainly not for the faint hearted photographer who prefers his L glass to be black and less conspicuous :lol:

I like the way it's shown in height against the woman.... right on the end of the lens hood!! Imagine scratching that front element: "That will be £20,000 for the repair Sir...."

It's dollars not sterling, bringing it down to a very affordable £106,000 :) ;)

Seems Ok but I think I'll wait for the f/2.8 IS version  :D

Now that would get over my problem with garden birds being small in the frame!!

It would get over my problem of having to sit on wet sand whilst waiting for the light. Can't personally see any other use for it. :p

It wouldn't come as a surprise if some members bought one and ended up shooting blue tits with it!

Well I am prepared to put a £10 in - or if need be £15 if we can get a kitty going. Having said that, it would probably bend my tripod.

"The model I reviewed (in excellent condition) has a $120,000 price tag hanging on it. That's right - it costs more than a small house in the country."

I'd like to know which country this small house in the....err....country is in

£100,000 won't buy a roofless cow shed

....Americans

They bought Alaska for about £13.45 didn't they? :p

I think I'll give it a miss. To be honest, any examples I've seen from that lens don't look particularly spectacular anyway. And that's not just jealousy! I really don't mind anyone owning it at all, even though I definitely can't afford it.

Well... not this week anyway (it depends on the lottery really) :)

Give it time and StewartR will get one - then we can all have a go with it

He could lease it for $4000 a month then we could rent it for £1000 a week, 100 members @ £10 each on a meet 2 minutes each then back in the car :D

Obviously I've thought about it. But I can't convince myself there are enough people out there who have pockets deep enough.... and if you think you can organise a 100-member meet every week, 52 weeks of the year, then your organisation skills are incredibly superior to mine!

Having said that, the other week I hired out a Sigma 300-800mm and a 2x teleconverter to a guy who does covert surveillance. There might be a tasty market there if only I can find a way into it...

Some HERE. Rather more than a cowshed. In America, but it was an American review wasn't it?

What would my nice crop sensor give me in terms of focal length I wonder.....1920mm!! :D

Stewart - thanks for the link. I may get myself a 1.4x to put on the 400L I already have but I cannot afford a 500L and 2 x 2TCs - unless Mr Darling does very radical things this afternoon.

a white lens that big is hardly covert!
It can be. From the review:
Using a Canon EOS 1Ds Mark III, faces were recognizable at distances up to a mile or more. A higher density sensor such as that in the 50D or [500D] should extend this distance to an even more incredible number.
