EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS MK I versus MK II IS? Much difference in image quality?

I've begun saving for my next lens and although it may take a while, I'm quite interested in the Canon EF 70-200 f/2.8 L IS.

Have any of you folks used both the MK I and the MK II? Is there really much difference in image quality etc?

You can also check the results out at DXO Mark, which suggest the Tamron is better?

Check any review you like really, they all say the MkII is significantly better. It's most noticeable at f/2.8.
