a good lens I believe but with the release of the mk 2 which I have decided is a bit munch to pay for my limited ability what would I have to pay for a good used mk1.
Can't find any stock of new mk1's anywhere
how much were they new

No one has had mk1 stock for a long time.

New circa 12-1400 depending on where and when, you could buy for less than a grand at the right time though but this doesnt mean used you will get one for £500

appears to me that used they are upto 1k for the mk1
MBP are sold out of the mk1's at the mo they were just over 1k

Yes 1k is about average for a mk1 lens.

does the age of the lens make much difference to its value
I have found a couple of minty mint ones but one is 3 years older than the other
or is it just a case of about 50 quid difference

They still hold value well irrespective of age.
