Hi Guys,

I am looking at two camera's at the moment.

Which of the two would you choose, based solely on the lens that they come with?

17-85 or the 28-135

Thanks.

That depends entirely on the format. Is it full frame or a cropped sensor?

If it's a cropper (most are, unless you're spending loads) then the 17-85 - 28-135 is too long at the wide-angle end for general purpose walkabout.

Having had both lenses I would say that if careful when taking the shot the 28-135 is sharper, in fact it is very sharp. There is a fair bit of barrel distortion on the 17-85 at the 17mm end but it's not too bad.

Depends if you need the wide end. On a crop sensor camera 28 becomes 44.6mm equiv on full frame which isn't great for wide shots, landscapes so you need to decide what you are going to shoot. Most of my images are between 17 and 60mm. I use a 85mm f1.8 also.
