Yes
just to be sure for future reference etc.....

i own a canon 1000d body which is ef-s compatible.....

would i be correct in believing that the camera i have will also be compatible with ef lenses, not just ef-s lens, as i want to get some extension tubes. There seems to be loads of literature about- half of which contradicts others info so im baffled....

as i understand it if the camera body is ef, it is not compatible with ef-s lens

could some just confirm is im thinking along the correct lines here... thanks

This is correct.

However, because the extension tube essentially replaces the 'body' fitting, you need to make sure it is EF-S LENS compatible... i.e. your body could take an EF tube but you might not be able to fit EF-S lenses to it...

I don't know what different types are available!

cheers.... later down the line when i upgrade the body to a better one, il now doubt have to do the same again...

The only EF only digital cameras are the 1D series and the 5D series. All other modern Canon DSLRs are EF-S compatible.

ok.... give it a year to experiment with this one then an investment is probably gonna be in order
