Is this worth getting I am new on here and new to my 550D and I guess photography. I have the std lens 18-55mm but looking for a new lens for taking standard photos whilst I learn to fully appreciate the camera

From what I have read I think this could be my first buy. Cheers

You will not be disappointed

Yeah....also the Canon 50mm f1.8 is another contender for the bag at around £80. Quite poorly built, a bit dodgy on the focus front sometimes but gives you a large aperture for the cash therefore gives you more options in poor light and more background blur if thats your goal!!!

Hi Mark.
If in any doubt, have a look at THIS THREAD

I still have mine, and use it often.
Cracking lens for the money.

I wouldn't hesitate to recommend the 55-250. It suffers a little from a loss of sharpness at the edges, but for the money it's a great lens. I've only recently traded mine part-ex for a 70-200mm f/4L.

Hi Mark

as above posts, yes it's a good buy and for the price is a cracker of a lens. My daughter uses one and loves it, gets great results with it and it's not a heavy lens...

Time to start spending :D

absolute belter of a lens for the money
flash camera are the cheapest at 119 other grey suppliers I looked at were 140 + as were some second hand suppliers

Incidentally, I sold mine to Brighton-based http://mpbphotographic.co.uk after reading recommendations from other TP members. If you're really on a budget, it might be worth looking there as they have a few used 55-250s available.
