I have an E-Systems 1212 laptop it has 1GB DDR2, Can it take another? or will it take a single 2GB card?

Thanks for the reply tryed crucial its a good site and would be just what I need but they dont have my laptop on there and the search cant find what it is.
Think I will have you just unscrew the cover on the laptop and see what it will take not that I really no anything about them.

There's a little application that you can download from the Crucial site that will check your system and tell you what memory it is capable of taking.
It works very well - or at least it has on my old Toshiba and Kiasmum's Dell.

Crucial's prices are also pretty good.

So looks like I have two slots and ones being used buy the 1GB.
The maximum memory capacity being 12582912 MB does that mean I could have the 1GB thats in there and a 2GB?

I cant understand that, its what came up on crucial maybe theres a decimal point missing or something :thinking:
 
Ok scrap that. Just opened it up and theres only space for one ram :|
Not sure what to do havent had the laptop that long so might try and take it back because Im not happy with how slow it goes.
Theres hardley anything on it so it cant havent anything to do with me filling the hard drive up nor does it have a virus......
Has been like it from day one. :shrug:

Only one RAM slot? Hm....

You could try the "ready boost" functionality - ie. get a USB pen that permanently sits in one of the ports and stores some system files. I've never used this, but it's supposed to improve speed.

Through some clever detective work on google I have found out that the chipset can take up to a 2GB ram so I have orderd a Kingston one will see if that works if not its not much money lost.

Will let you know what happens :thumbs:
 
The retailer is under no obligation to take it back just because you find it a bit slow.

Looking at the price/spec we are talking the lower end of the market and these systems are kep low in cost by cutting down on spec.
e.g it's a dual core not a core 2 duo

Unfortunately the specs don't say what the true max ram is, best to ask at pcw or as said use the readybosst feature.

Yeah you are right plus its been abit to long to take it back.

Theres the link that says about it taking up to 2GB but I have seen it else were on the internet.
Were it says Single Channel Memory Controller.

I got the laptop as a quick buy as my other was nicked while in Spain :'(
 
Are you quite sure there isn't another slot for ram located e.g. under the keyboard?
I know of at least one Dell model that had one slot accessible from the bottom and one after taking out the keyboard, if I remember well, odd as it might seem.

About Vista's performance, do you have Vista Service Pack 1 installed?

Maybe it's the HDD that makes it seem slow? Use HD Tune to benchmark your HDD and post the results here.

Hey I have looked under the keyboard with no luck.
Cheers for the link will take a look.
I defragment the computer every few days and there nothing really on the hard drive and not that many processes running.
It tells me its a 3.0 performance score found that via control panel - system if that makes any sence to you?

If you can view the partial scores, it would be good, it could help you identify what Vista doesn't like.
I think it's likely to be the graphics card or the hard drive, but you'll know once you look at the partial scores.

I just recently bought an EI Systems Laptop (1303 off the top of my head) for my lad for christmas and Mr Memory stated the same.

After removing the cover underneath the laptop I only found one slot so after extensive net surfing it became apparent that there is a second slot under the keyboard but you have to take the keyboard completely off from the top.

There is a screw underneath the laptop (in the middle of the big cover) that has KB marked next to it. I removed that, then there are 5 or 6 clips around the keyboard that have to be pushed back with a small knife or something to release the keyboard.

Have you tried the above ?

In the end I decided that I couldn't be bothered with the keyboard method and only yesterday fitted a 2GB module to the single slot under the laptop.

Thanks for that I uncliped the keyboard and had a glimps inside but couldnt see anything.
Ive orderd a 2GB Ram now so I will have to do the same as you and just fit that, did you take one out and just have the 2GB in?

So does that mean I could have 2x 2GB = 4GBs of Ram??

Yes the laptop only came with 512mb as standard (strange as vista was also standard) and it was a single 512mb in the slot underneath (not 2 x 256mb), so I simply swapped it straight over.

Much easier than messing around with those stupid clips, I thought I was likely to damage it at one point so stopped.
 
Ok just look the keyboard off and guess what? Thats right nothing there :lol:
Im starting to think Ei-Systems are just made randomly with no info on them mr memory says there should be two slots like crucial....

I would go and ask in Currys but I doubt they will be any use.
 
I HAD AN OLD LAPTOP THAT HAD THE MEMORY UNDER THE KEYBOARD, BUT THERE WAS A METAL PLATE OVER THE TOP OF IT THAT HAD TO BE UNSCREWED:SHRUG:

Where did you open it?
Often laptops will have each ram slot in a different location
For example, 1 under the keyboard and the other behind a hatch underneath.

The hatch underneath I have looked there and theres my 1GB in there and no other slots.

There could be one under the keyboard **** I have taken off but need to get passed the metal layer to get to the slot I think anyway :thinking:

Usually if there is one under the keyboard it is accessible just by lifting the keyboard.
Not always mind. There are some where the palmrest needs removing!

Hum yeah Im just woundering if I should bother or not might b****r it up and its still under warranty.

I have a 2GB on the way so might just put that in should do the job just fine.

Oh and if there is another slot it should be empty because the one thats under the laptop is a 1GB so not half in one and half in another.

An update for those that replyed to my thread.

Got my 2GB Ram yesterday put it in the laptop and works fine the computer see's that theres 2GB now and has sped up the computer so much Im very happy and all for around £15.
