Electrical shorting sound from new lens

Purchased a sigma lens today and am experiencing almost like an arcing sound from it on both d300 and d80 bodies.......lens works as expected and focuses as expected.

Was wondering if this has happened to anyone else previousl if not i am taking it back

Definitely sounds like the IS/VR or whatever Sigma calls it. Will be an internal element being moved and the noise you hear will be the servo's doing it.

Generally speaking, at the voltages that are present in the camera, there are not likely to be any arcs created that are audible.

its more likely a mechanical noise.

if it's got O.S. turn it off and focus with it. if the noise goes away, then it's only the O.S. working.

Have turned the OS off and changed to manual focus but the noise is still there, think it is a case of taking it back tomorrow......

Listening to the noise again it is almost like the interference from an incorrectly tuned in radio station

After a lot of hunting....yeah alright should have checked Sigma's website first came across this

I have just purchased your 18-125mm OS lens which I am very happy with however there is a buzzing noise which occurs even when the OS is switched off. This also remains for about 1 minute after the camera is switched off. Is the lens faulty?
It is normal for this lens to make a slight buzzing noise. Please refer to the lens' instruction leaflet for further details......:bonk::bonk::rules:
