Em5 12-40 or A7 28-70 real world any difference?

I have the EM5 with primes and the 12-40. I have been itching for the A7 with 28-70. I would also get the 55 f1.8. But in real day to day shooting and just normal size printing would I notice any difference betwen zooms.I know from a technical/lab side of things the a7 sensor blows the m43 out the water but I don't shoot in a lab.Maybe in fact the
12-40 actually evens it up in performance.
Just after any opinions of people who have used both. Thanks

That's what I mean. The 12-40 is better optically than the 28-70 and a7 sensor is better than the EM5 so would they roughly even each other out on a day to day basis.

As you say depends what you shoot. For low light or larger prints the A7 would be much better.

I have an A7 and also the kit lens... but I've never used it :D and it lives in the box and instead I use manual primes and the FE 55mm f1.8.

My own view of kit lenses is that they're mostly ok. The only bad one I've ever used is the Canon 17-85mm which I thought was a piece of junk and gave away. Other than that I've always been reasonably happy with the image quality available from f3.5-5.6 kit zooms but not with their aperture range.

If you are happy to have a f3.5-5.6 zoom then I think you'll be reasonably happy with the Sony kit lens as it seems ok to me and better than some on line would have you believe.
 
Not used M4/3 gear, but when I looked at the A7 when I was changing from my Fuji XT1, I compared pictures from the Sony lens and I was suprised how good it was against the Fuji 18-55mm which is highly rated for a kit lens. From some of the comments I had read it was a dog but it wasn't IMO. Although it was daylight shooting.

For the price of the body only, I think it's a no brainer to add the lens and buy as a kit.

I thought you had cured the GAS attacks :D
Mind you if you fancy some low cost fun that may end up feeling a little more serious try one of the DPxMerrills.
Slow and deliberate to use but the output from that Foveon sensor and prime lens will have most 35mm Bayer tackle gasping ;)
