Is there a way I can check to see if my emails are being put in peoples spam or junk folders instead of inbox?

I've sent a few emails recently and not got any replies, which is a tad odd, it may be nothing, but just wondered if there was some way to check?
 
Not sure I'd know how to do that, plus I never click that "Acknowledge receipt" option if people send them to me.

Just thought there might be some online thing that you can send an email to, and it tells you how likely it is to be classed as spam. :shrug:

Nothing reliable. Once an email is accepted for delivery by your outgoing MTA (usually your ISP's SMTP server) it's out of your hands completely.

You could try image tracking, but many people use email clients that don't load images. Read reciepts are unreliable as many people disallow them - I disallow them automatically, I never even see that a reciept has been requested. I did a fair amount of research on keeping things out of the spam folder a few years back when we started sending out auto-generated acknowledgement emails to our customers from one of our servers. We have a spam filter here which puts the spam "score" for an email in the headers and shows how it was arrived at.

As I remember, to reduce the possibility of being categorised as spam:

1. Send plain text only. No images, no attachments and no HTML.
2. Use the recipients name in the greeting rather than a generic "Dear Sir" or similar.
3. Don't include any hyperlinks
4. Don't have multiple recipients for a single email, at least not more than half a dozen.

(there are lots of other things as well, those are the first few that came into my head)
 
absolutely no way to check and no reliable way of stopping them going into a junk folder as probably every company will have their filters set up in different ways with different keywords, content scoring etc.

Agreed. And they are often contradictory. I've encountered people that can receive email sent from our office which we send direct by SMTP to the primary MX for their domain but not when we relay it via our ISP and I've encountered others that can only receive it when we relay via our ISP and not when we send it direct to their MX record.

This is for identical messages, it can be a complete nightmare :bang:

it can indeed, some companys run really agressive scoring too.

not to mention when the likes of MS (hotmail/live) decided to blacklist an entire IP range of SMTP servers..

I'll respond to 'acknowledge receipt' requests for business mail, and expect clients to do the same, because it can be important, but that's about it. I tend to treat this like 'Withheld' or 'Private' phone numbers. I know a lot of people who just won't answer and let it go to voicemail, but some of my corporate clients use phone systems that automatically block the sending number and it's in my interests to answer. I do get the odd nuisance call, but these are easy to terminate.
