Hi all

No picture I am afraid :(

I spotted a beetle walking through some weeds on a our drive and I have never seen anything like it before.

It was approx the size of a large flying ant....between 1.5 to 2cm long.
The abdomen was bright orange/red
The thorax was emerald green.

The lack of any visible carapace makes me think it was a ground beetle.

I have looked in my guide book and Googled to see if there was any beetle remotely resembling it but nothing found yet.

Any pointers and suggestions would be appreciated:)

Garden Chafers ?
Ah! methinks you are correct......

Googling shows me images that are very close to what I recall seeing. I had no idea that such small Chafers existed.
The very bright sun on it made the colours much bolder & brighter than in the images on Google.
Could it have been a hawthorn shield bug (Acanthosoma haemorrhoidale) ?
Sorry no, not a shield bug.
