EMERGENCY!

My camera has just frozen with a warning screen 'system error' and the red light (that indicates whens it busy) keeps flashing!! And i can hear it going crazy inside! it won't even turn off! what should i do??

(I was just taking pics outside, it's raining a little bit but not a lot that i think would affect the camera. I was shooting in continuous mode and holding down the shutter for a few seconds when it happened!)

Should i take the battery out or will this cause further damage?
AHHHH! PLEASE DONT DIE CAMERA!

Take the battery out wait a few seconds and put it back in and hope for the best !

With shooting continuous, you may have overloaded the buffer, if you want to keep those images, I'd let it carry on saving them. Taking the battery out now while it's writing may render the card useless until reformatted.

Phew! It's alive! I just took out the battery like you said! i'll leave it to dry then for a while.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for your very quick replies!! life savers!

Oh Gary that's probably what heppened then, it ended up saving most them but i wasn't too worried about the silly pics i was taking lol, just casually freaking out about my wee baby! haha. Thanks btw :)

 If overloading the buffer leaves the camera going 'crazy inside' and flashing error messages like a nuclear reactor, I would be very worried indeed, thats not normal is it? My Nikons just stop taking pictures. Mind you [hides behind sofa while shouting this] it is a Sony.... :p JOKING!

Good luck TS, let us know how your baby is when its dried out a bit

When you say you 'hear' it going crazy inside, does it sound like it is still trying to take photos?

Is it possible that the button is stuck down, or water got inside the button?
(I am wondering [knowing nothing about your particular camera] whether like many it has a half-press, and full-press button. I am thinking, that if a drop of water got into the button, it might be registering both full and half-press at the same time. This would probably freak-out the camera as this shouldn't occur [hence the error message], and might also explain the noise, as you said you were in continous mode perhaps the camera just continued to try and take photos?)

A good tip for helping things dry out if you don't have any drying agents is to put in a bag / container with rice and leave in a warm (not hot) place for a while, the rice will absorb the moisture

you guys have smarts, i enjoy! haha

ColdPenguin, it basically sounded like it does when its processing like a long exposure shot or something, just preparing to show it. Kinda scary though, i thought it was a goner!
You may be right, it happened as the shutter wa being held down fully and there was little droplets on the top of it. I just didnt think it would be affected by being in very sparse rain for 5 minutes like, but now i know not to risk it!

Thanks again for all the help, and he seems to be doing great :) nothing seems to be wrong anymore, just needed a little time to chill (well..heat lol)
