Enhancing posters

A while ago I bought some posters but when they arrived I was disappointed to find that they were larger (about 900mm x 600mm) than I expected and blown up well beyond the size that the original photo would support.

A thought has just crossed my mind - If I were to photograph the posters then reduce the print size considerably (maybe 300mm x 200mm) they might be OK.

Has anyone ever tried anything similar? Results? Tips?

Thanks in anticipation.

Doubt it'll improve things much.

You won't be removing the interpolated pixels (what makes enlargemtns look crap) and restoring the image to it's original state, you'll just be compressing the already interpolated image and my guess would be that it'd look worse if anything.

Also, I presume the posters are not of your images - as if the images were yours then surely you'd just reprint at the correct size from the original file - so there's an issue of copyright. If the images are recognisable/well known or it's at all obvious that you have photographed a poster then any decent printer will refuse to print them.

As to the legal aspect, they were not of merchantable quality (which I didn't notice until too late) and they are only for my wall so I am not too bothered.

I suspect you are right about the quality but it's got to be worth giving it a go.
