Been playing with my new little fujifilm xf1 that I bought yesterday, lovely little camera great images. I was a little worried by the twist action to turn the camera on, but I have now got the hang of it. I love it's little quirkiness. I am really glad I bought it, besides how could I not seeings how low cost it is. Not took it out yet, just been trying it around the house, and finding out more about it. From fully charged I have fired of a good few shots, and done a few little video clips. Been looking through the menus etc, and just been setting up the custom C1 C2 user setting, got half way setting up custom setting when the camera died. I had an idea the battery would be running out soon, but it only dropped one bar, two bars showing for a few minutes when battery icon started flashing then just shut down. Not much of a warning, from one bar to two, then shut down! Looks like I will have to get hold of a spare battery.

Oh that's good, got the battery is on for its second charge. Sorry nope, most of the photos are of the missus lounging about on the sofa. I don't think the missus would be too happy me posting photos of her in her bra and knickers, besides the place is a right tip, I was meant to tidy up. But I have been playing with the camera all day, and not done much else lol
 
Because you wanted a camera for her and someone took you up on the offer?

Glad you're enjoying the XF, John. I was an early adopter of it as a pocketable alternative to the X-?0 cameras (both of which I also ended up with!) and am still loving it! Slightly quirky but very capable.
 
Quirky, I'll admit to but the DVLA won't admit to me being capable!

I was going to get an X10/X20 but a friend bought an X10, and he felt it a little bulky for a compact, he did not use it much so he lent it to me for a short spell. I also felt it was too bulky as a pocket Camera, that's why I decided on a proper pocket able compact, like the XF1. The price helped also, it was mad not to get one at the price. I love it's little quirkiness, and I absolutely love the way it turns on, I have mastered it already. I am still in the process of tweaking all the settings, some things are still a little confusing. But I am enjoying finding out where everything is.
 
It is a good camera but you might have to get another another battery for it. I bought a third party one from Amazon and it lasts longer than the original one. Will dig up a the name when I am on the pc.
 
I was lucky as far as batteries go, when I bought the X-10 (from the classifieds here) it came with 3 batteries and when I sold it on, I kept hold of the 2 spares since they fit the XF-1. Now I have 2 XFs (3 if you count the car!!! and 7 if you add in the XF series lenses for the X-Pro 1...) and 1 X-20 and 5 batteries to share between them. The spare batteries and a couple of extra memory cards all live in a SanDisk pouch and sit on the shelf beside the baby X cameras ready to grab on the way out.
 
So Provia is the default setting, and you have to have one of the film simulation setting, no film simulation off option ! When I take a photo in low light, I get what sound like another repeat shutter action, but sounds slightly delayed. I then get the message Processing. It does not happen in good light only poor light, just wondering what's getting added in the Process ?

Not sure what it could be, still tweaking the settings ! Shoot Raw, hey I think I will give that a try and see how I feel with it :)
 
The general consensus was that jpegs were better than the raw files, but imo the raw files are better.

The simulation will still show on the screen but won't affect the actual raw image.

I'll check mine for nr settings

Yes you could be right, I am Still finding my way around this quirky little camera, love it the more I play with it. Been reading the manual and finding out where things are, and what does what. Not really had any time to take the camera out yet.
 
Reading the manual is always a good idea!

As for the film simulation, Provia gives a fairly accurate rendition of colours' vibrancy and saturation and is what I keep mine set to. Personally I don't bother with raw - I'd rather be shooting than tweaking!

I don't mind admitting to having to reading the manual, I suppose it's the same as going to my mates and cooking dinner. I know how to cook Dinner, just don't know what cupboard all the ingredients are kept in, to cook the dinner with. Besides if I keep asking you guys, you will all soon get fed up of me, you will soon tell me to sod off ;)

I have also decided to keep it set to Provia, I did try a quick Raw conversion last night, but I found it a little time consuming. Besides my images are only for me and family, with Raw I can see me not knowing when to stop.

I keep one of the manuals in the kit bag (although that doesn't always come out with the camera!) and had the other as a "bog book" until I was fairly familiar with most of the functions. That copy now sits beside my chair and I flick through it from time to time with the camera in my hand exploring things I've forgotten!

I've never bothered with raw on the baby Xs and after a brief play, I don't use it with any of my cameras - my pics are 99.99% for me and the other .01% are for people who want fairly instant results. I do as little PP as possible and (after years as a film shooter using slide film) generally get it right in camera - a quick review shows if it's close enough and a reshoot is almost always possible, although when shooting action, I take a few test shots to see if any tweaks need making.

I too found it a useful Bog Book last night ;) I wont really bother with Raw, as I have had a quick look at the Jpegs, and they look really good, and I am impressed with the colours and picture quality. I can see I am really going to enjoy using this little camera. It cost so little, but I know it will give me hours of enjoyment :) It's also good to know you have the Raw option, should you ever want/ need to use it one day.
