I just got myself aan eos 1d mk2 as a second body for motorsort and wildlife.
i did not get a manual with it so i struggling but enjoying getting to grips with it as its a different beast to anything im used to.what i was wondering was what is the best number of af points to select for fast moving subjects like birds in flight etc.i would have thought 45 and if so how do i select them all.i can work out how to select 1 but not all 45.

On my 1D2 for birds in flight I tend to select an AF point (center normally) shoot in AI Servo for tracking and then in the custom functions (C.fn-17) have it set so that either 7 or 13 adjacent points around the selected AF point can 'assist' you.

Your call. My choice? AI Servo, centre point only.
 
thanks all, ill get out to the duck pond tomorrow and have a play about.
