Hi all

I sold my canon kit a couple of years ago due to finance and not having time.
I had a 40d and was into macro and general walk around / kids / nature i was no means an expert and was learning at a nice pace !

I am now in a position that i have a bit of cash and more times on my hands and basically miss my photography.

Im looking to get back with canon... First looking at the 600d with 18-135 is kit
then saw the 60d with same kit

I know things have progressed a lot the last couple of years
Looking to get the kit for now and buy new glasses as funds permit

Question ... is the 60d kit worth the extra 200 quid over 600d kit
As my last camera was a 40d the 600d looks toyish and i don't want to make a mistake

Am contemplating buying a 60D...upgrade from the 450D...cant justify the 7D, but the
60D isnt a leap too far :)
 
There isn't much between a 600D and 60D technically. You should get very. very similar pictures out of them. This might be of interest/help:

I would say the 60D is the better model to go for, coming from a 40D.

A good friend of mine has recently upgraded to a 60D - he was choosing between these 2 and the deciding factors were the fps, build quality and being a bigger body, he thought it was worth the extra money.

He's had it for a few weeks now and doesn't regret the 60D.

Hi I've just upgraded from 1000d to the 7d and had the same problem as you which one to go for. I see from your post you cant justify the money for a 7d and that's what I was thinking and was really tempted by the 60d as my next body but wanting to buy a body I would be happy with and help progress for a fair few years to come so choose the 7d.

And IMO I made a great choice 8fps is amazing the weight and feel of it justifies the extra cash , I got mine with the kit lens 18-135 and will add better glass when my budget allows.

If you can upgrade your body when you like as your photography hobby grows then I don't think it matters which body you choose as long as the body works for you but if like me you can only spend this amount of money once in a blue moon lol then I would IMO go for the best body you can afford and for me it's the 7d.

Couple of my mates have a 60D and unless you think you need a 7D (AF, FPS) get the 60D until you really want to go FF.

My view is, it's currently the best bang for buck camera in the Canon range.

Same here, just upgraded from a 500d to 60d and VERY pleased with it. Just waiting to get out a bit more...:thumbs:
 
From personal experience the 600d is rather poor. the video it can produce is awesome as with the photos if you try real hard. the focusing is awefull for shooting sports and there a heap of toy plastic. weather proofing is non existant.

Basicaly dont buy one

This is totally off the mark.

Focusing is fine for sports if youre on the right settings and its no harder to get good shots from than any body, and the ones it does produce are also as good as anything bar FF bodies using the right lens. If you can't get good shots it's down to technique not the body.

And who would expect weather proofing from an entry level range? It's like criticising a basic model car for not having back massaging seats and an infra red heads up display. Not that I'm calling the 600d basic as I don't think there's such thing as a 'basic' dslr these days.

i have the 550d basiclly the same as the 600d (without flipy out screen), nothing wrong with it.
 
Agreed with the last 2 comments, there's nothing wrong with the 600D.

However, to answer your question, yes the 60D is worth the £200 extra (for me)
