Looking to make a purchase soon.

Fairly decided on the body - 650D
Its the lenses where i am struggling. Happy to get the kit lens as a starting point with a 50mm 1.8. As most of my use for the other lens would be for zoo, airshows etc I am contemplating the 100-400l but also considering the 300 F4 IS and the 70-200 F4 Is or 70-200 F2.8 non is.

Happy to spend up to £1k beyond the body kit and 50mm cost. The 100-400 gives me more flexibility and gets good reviews but would there be any merit in the 70-200 witha teleconverter or indeed any other lenses to be considered.

I use the 100-400 a lot.... a great zoo lens and works well for air shows etc.. as it is nice and light and easy to use.

I have a 70-200 as well which is good for general and street but not long enough even with the 1.4 and I didn't feel as crisp when used with a 2x

The 300 is very restrictive on a crop as it can be hard to manage due to the lack of flexibility in focal length. It is however lovely and sharp....

That sums up what I was thinking myself. Thanks for that.
Will try and get time a store to try it out then.

The wife has a 650D and uses a Sigma 120-400 OS with it and gets some really good photos. I've got a 150-500 OS that she's used on occasions and that goes really well with the body too. I had a Canon 100-400 L and after a lot of testing I decided to keep the Sigma as it was giving me as good IQ and has a better stabilizing system than the Canon. The Sigma 50-500 OS is supposed to be sharper than the 150-500 OS and you can get that within your budget range too.
