Eos 7D - Long Exposure low ISO vs Short exposure High Iso... Views

Hi

Not sure if I am in the correct forum for this, but looking at views and opinions.

I will be attending the Lightning Preservation Groups Night Shoot tomorrow at Bruntingthorpe.

I am trying to decide if i am better using a longer exposure at say ISO 160 or a shorter exposure at a higher ISO, say 640 / 800

I know its been done to death regarding the 7d and noise in general, but this is a little more specific to technique.

I have read all about true ISO, and read all the reviews regarding noise comparisons between ISO ranges.

But the main question I am looking at here is, will i generate more noise using a low ISO with a long exposure or more noise using a higher ISO and quicker shutter speed??.....

Any ideas?

Lower ISO and longer speeds will contain less noise. The factor is.. are you shooting anything moving? If so, you may not be able to use the lower ISO.

If you are shooting static objects, then low ISO... camera on tripod, and use longer speeds.

It should all be static work.

Tripod and release cable is paced and I will be using mirror lock up. I just know from experience that even low ISO, with a long exposure will generate noise on the 7d
