Hi folks

When I really can't be bothered to carry my main body about I resort to the EOS-M for family-related stuff out and about (it fits in my wife's handbag as well )

Sometimes when we get invited to parties I don't really want to appear to be pretentious by carrying the 5D3 around so again, I carry the Speedlite 600EX which will also fit in my wife's handbag

For some reason, and i've gone through the manual, settings and Google...I can't get the AF-assist beam to fire on the 600EX when it's attached to the EOS-M...works just fine on the 5D3 but not on the M...obviously the AF beam fires on the M but not the flash...any ideas?

The Eos M has its own assist beam and will only use the assist beam from flashes with an LED output....the 600EX doesn't.

I'd guess that it won't happen as the body has its own focus assist system. A "fix" implies a problem but I suspect the system is working as they intended. The M has the AF sensors embedded in the sensor and they may not respond well to the pattern, timing and spacing of the 600EX's assist beam. On a DSLR body then the beam is fired before the shutter is opened and the beam is off by the time the mirror pops up.
