I am looking to buy my first Dslr and have been looking on E-bay. Are these cameras with the name Rebel etc to be trusted. I have read somewhere about the lack of a guarantee in the uk.
Rebel is the EU/US name for the EOS series. You wont have any Canon warranty with them, and may be harder to resell. There are loads of "proper" eos's around so save your cash and get one of those.
