EOS50D No response from main dial

Hi,
Can anyone help?
I've got an EOS50D, about a year old with various lenses. The problem is that in AV or TV, I can't change the apetrture or shutter speed using the main dial. I can change them with the quick control dial on the back, but not with the dial next to the top LCD. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?

Do you have a grip fitted, I have had this problem with a gripped 7D and research on the web suggests that if the main control wheel on the grip is 'between clicks' it stops the top one from working. I know when it happens to me that if I use the wheel on the grip to make a change after the top on fails to respond the top one comes back to life.
 
With the normal set up the quick control dial (on AV and TV) adjusts the exposure compensation... It does sound as if a setting has been tripped, or as above, do you have a grip interfering?

I have a non-Canon grip fitted!!!!!!
Removed the grip and HEY PRESTO, main wheel works.
:):):):):):):)
Bought the grip off the forum and the previous owner said no problems..
Well, now I know, use the grip and it's quick control dial only....

Now I'm looking at the grip, the grip control is turned on disabling the main wheel......
My fault, numpty.......

Actually having the grip turned on shouldn't disable the main wheel (mine doesn't and it's a third party one as well) it's only occasionally which leads me to think that it is this 'between clicks' scenario. Anyways, you know it isn't a problem with the body, I was on the verge of sending mine in to Canon :lol:

Guessing that the grip turned on disables the main wheel,
Turn it off and it works,
Turn it back on and it doesn't.

Yeah, I was about to box the camera up and send it back as well. :D
Glad I didn't, feel stupid.
Never mind, EOS works fine now, no worries.
