Epson P-3000, any good?

Someone I know bought one of these a long time ago but never really learnt how to use it. Mainly because they are not into computers or gizmos at all.
They might be interested in selling it and I was wondering if they are any good.

I guess they really need to be quick and work without charging for a while and thats the main qualities.

The other thing, what should I offer for it, since its not really been used much and they have had it for over a year or so.

I have one. It really depends on whether you have a need for it though. Functionality is pretty good. It does its job as advertised in a small package. A handy backup device with the ability to review.

But... for the same price you could also have a netbook instead. A bigger screen, bigger HD, better battery life, ability to run a win O/S and all the benefits that go with it.

I bought a netbook since getting the P-3000 and to be honest I'd take the netbook and card reader every time. It would only be if I needed to go really lightweight I'd take the just the Epson viewer instead.

I already have a laptop so I used that for backup, depends how fast the netbooks are for this and I wouldnt want to spend that much at all on it.

The Epson is very slow at downloading from the card in comparison to a netbook with fast card reader. I never found the battery life of the P-3000 to be that great either - maybe a couple of hours heavy usage. A Samsung NC-10 netbook will last a good 5 hours on its standard battery. I've not looked, but I'd imagine the second hand prices of both would be fairly close.

You can never have too many gadgets though
