Epson R2880 CIS confirmation of choice....!!!

Now then chaps and chapesses.... (think that is how you spell it...)

I know that this has been asked before but i want to know if anyone has used more than one type of CIS with this printer.

I got one the other day and i love it. I have done one major print run and i have nearly drained the cartridges in less than a week.... I always planed on buying a CIS so the time is TODAY.....

BUT....

Should i go for Lyson or Fotospeed...?

Or is someone going to throw another spanner in the works.

I will be using it to do prints every now and then and also big batches ot a few hundred every 3 months so i will get through some serious ink and i cannot be doing with it getting clogged up...!!

Also what ink do you use because Fotospeed offer 2 types from what i can see...!

And also again what paper do you use, have you found a magic combination that you are willing to share...?

I will mainly be selling portrait and event shots and sports photography...

So serious experiences and opinions please:shrug:
 
Permajet are worth a look. I don't have one but a friend has just fitted one to his 2880 and seems happy. I guess you'll be wanting pigment ink as that is what the original is.

I've used original cartridges on my R1800 until now with Permajet Oyster paper but I've just got some refillable cartridges (rather than CIS) off Ebay and ink from Advanced Inkjet Systems (after a recommendation on here)

Can't comment yet on that ink myself as I haven't had time to change cartridges.

Lyson/Marriott they also supply custom profiles. That's the one I've used on previous printers and the one I'm getting for the R2400. Just make sure you print at least a head test page once a week to avoid clogging and you sorted!

I'm actually using refillable cartridges in my R2400 at the moment which is ok but can be a pain at times due to the small size of them. I use refillable cartridges on the hp all in one which is better due to them being much larger. I have a CISS on the R300 too but don't use it anymore, the CISS does make the printer really difficult to move about though as the ink reservoirs have to be at the same height or ink pours out of them into the printer!

That's fair enough. Although I guarantee if you put it next to a brand new one, nobody on this planet would distinguish them.
All that aside, the Epson is a nice bit of kit. I'd go with the fotospeed personally.
 
The Permajet one looks nice as well...

b****r, why do these choices take so much brain power.

I went with a Lyson in the end. Everyone has raved over the support they offer so i called up to test it.

Very impressed and got 10% off the order so got some paper as well...!

Do you have any feedback regarding the Advanced Inkjet Systems yet as I am considering purchasing one after just buying an Epson 7890, I'm loathed to use a 3rd party ink supplier as others that I have used on previous printers (R300M) have not turned out well.

I've always bought original ink cartridges for my R2880 but I recently bought a full set of compatible inks for an almost unbelievable price off ebay, it worked out at under £1.50 for each cartridge. There's zero difference in the prints and the compatible cartridges have more ink in them than the Epson ones.

I use Epson Premium Glossy paper.

With regards to the ink, who was the manufacturer, was it advanced inkjet systems or another 3rd party supplier?

I've a refillable cartridge system from fotospeed with pigment inks and I'm happy with it. It works lovely with their paper. Black and whites on their baryta paper is gorgeous. For day to day prints I use ilford gallerie pearl. Colour match to my screen is usually as close as I could wish though the odd print needs tweaking. Main problem is keeping the ink flowing. It can often block even after a short period of inactivity. I have to get into the habit of testing the heads before wasting an expensive sheet of photo paper.
