I am looking to buy some equipment to get me started out. I have already decided that i like the feel of the Canon 500D it is the rest of it i need some help with :)

I am going to be mainly photographing cars (both static and motorsport), will more than likely get some landscapes shots too.

From what i have read the kit lens is relatively good for the static cars side of things, i have made a wishlist in my jessops basket. It comprises of the 500D kit, bag, cleaning kit, 8gb mem card, spare battery, card reader, polarising filters, and the bit i am most unsure of is the second lens, Tamron 70-300mm f4/5.6

Would this be a suitible lens for the motorsport side of things?

when you say '500D kit' do you mean 500D + 18-55mm kitlens?

Personally, I'd go for a canon ef-s 55-250mm instead of the tamron. It's a great value little lens.

Also, I'd go for 2x 4gb cards instead of one 8gig. Then if a card goes bad, you've lost at worse 4gig of shots instead of 8gig.

oops double post

That is a good idea :)

I do mean 500d with 18-55mm kit lens.

Also i thank you for the lens suggestion, i think i looked at that and for some reason completely forgot about it.

It all depends on budget.

Cheapest and very good value indeed is the Canon 55-250 IS for under £200. Next up is the Canon 70-300 IS at more than double that (avoid the 75-300), and then maybe the new 70-300L for more than double again.

Sigma and Tamron are cheaper options but frankly you get what you pay for.
