In this scenario, where you have the £££ to spend and its disposable, what would you do ?

D3s + 24-70 + 70-200 +16mm fisheye (and PS to make undistort(basically acting like a 14-24mm)


D700 +85mmG + 24-70 + 70-200 +16mm fisheye (and PS to make undistort(basically acting like a 14-24mm)

You love photography and your going to start working with models for headshots / full body fashion etc.

Which do you go for ? The price difference pretty much adds up to a D3s, I have the grip already, the low light ISO performance of the D3s really appeals to me, but then so does being able to shoot wide open at F1.4 with great IQ.

I'd just buy a real wide angle lens instead of using PS to undistort a fisheye...

sigma's new 85 1.4's meant to be damn good too, at a grand less than the nikon

If you do not need wide angle that much you could go for a 3rd party wide angle lens (sigma 12-24?) that gives pretty good results

I would suggest the wide angle is the least likely lens I would use for a model headshot or full length.

I can't imagine shooting fashion at high ISO often, I would use strobes and the lowest ISO possible.

Personally I like the D3s, it has dual card slots, but for fashion I might be shooting tethered so backup isn't a concern. If I wasnt going to shoot tethered I would want dual card slots.

For real fashion in a magazine you need to look at the D3x.

Isnt 12mp enough ? Im guessing ill end up shooting weddings when im good enough to pay for it all!

As for wide angles im actually considering getting hold of a 17-35 F2.8 (as its wide, can use filters, i have a 50mm prime, and i wouldnt need the 14-24 and 24-70) which means ill save around £2.5k if buying new (and buying the 17-35 2nd hand)...
