So having recently posted about a new BBQ, a couple of payments have left the spare cash situation somewhat healthier than I thought.

So do i buy a new or used D700 now or wait to see if there are any interesting announcements from Nikon in the next month or so?

The D700, D300S and D3S replacements were all scheduled for August but the Tsunami seems to have put things on hold for the moment so personally i would just buy a new D700, it will still be a stellar performer in 5 years time.

Money in your bank will devalue quicker than a D700.
 
A D700 you have got is surely better than a D800 you havent.

I quite agree. It's just I'm usually the bloke who goes out and buys somryhing only for it to be superseded a week later by the new improved model.:'(
 
If you need to upgrade then do, but if you would just like to upgrade like me, but am not really fussed if its now, 2 months or 6 months time then wait.

I'm upgrading to get better high iso settings for dull dark places where flash is not an option.
 
It's also going to depend on whether you'd take a used D700 as the difference between that and a "just announced" D800 could be up to a grand......

Would be a bit less on a new one and then there is the oft rumoured D400 to throw in the mix too.
 
I think you'd also have to consider how soon the newer model would be available on the market. Say, Nikon makes an announcement in August (middle of the month), I doubt we'd see the new camera in retail stores before November. Thereafter, how soon would you be happy to jump on that bandwagon?

Personally, for arguments' sake, if a D800 was announced today, and released in November, I wouldn't be looking to get one until middle of next year. Price would settle down a bit more, and updated firmware to clear out initial bugs released.

In short, go and get one now and enjoy it.

Hmm do I get a low count D700 which if I then sell the S5Pro, will leave enough to buy the Nikkor 24-70 as well. Tempting:help::clap:

thats very true i just found out my ISA is now at 1%,i am of the oppinion just spend it.

I got my D700 in January this year, despite reading about the soon to be released replacement ... which is still a soon to be released replacement :D

The D700 is a wonderful camera, and still will be when the soon to be released replacement actually is released :D

Of course it is. Sex on a D700 would be uncomfortable and probably void the warranty.

Grass is always greener and all that:)

Very pleased with it particularly the high iso. Don't have to worry about dingy churches any more.

Grip arrives tomorrow as well.

now where will it fit in my bag gulp:thinking:
 
It certainly is a pleasure to use, especially with the comfort knowing that you can push ISO way up (I've gone to 6400 comfortably).
