Hi all,

We're expecting our first baby in March, and was wondering if anyone could recommend any useful equipment for taking newborn shots. I've already splashed out on a nifty fifty, and have a 30d, tripod and cs3. Just thinking about props and backgrounds really. I've had a look on the forum and there are some great shots. Generally, are the b&w shots with a black background done with a backdrop of some sort, or can that be done in photoshop?

Thanks,

Dom

Congratulations. My son was born 2 months ago and I took it as an excuse to buy a fast portrait lens (90mm equiv) and the Perfect Portrait 2 plugin for Lightroom. The combination has allowed me to have some fun and get some decent shots. I haven't experimented with backgrounds or lighting, usually just shoot him in his chair with window lighting. One other thing is to use the burst mode, they change moods and look around so quickly it's hard to get them with their eyes open looking at the camera!
