Wondering if any of you could help me..ive just started shooting sport and am needing to insure my gear..

Ive got quotes from a couple of companies (photoguard + glover & howe) and was wondering if theres any other good companies to look at.

I found a company called "aaduki multimedia insurance" that were abit cheaper than the 2 mentioned above..anyone heard of, or had dealings with them?

Thanks

If you're entirely amateur (no payment accepted from anyone), your household contents insurance may cover you. Mine does, I'm with Hiscox for my home insurance and it's covered worldwide as long as my photography remains strictly amateur, plus I don't have to declare what I own or have any limit on individual item value, provided my total contents cover exceeds the value of my total contents.

This route obviously costs nothing extra as most people have house contents insurance already, but is no help to people accepting any kind of payment.

Hi,

I'm with Towergate camera insurance. They do cover semi pro (I think) but mine was due to my bag plus wanting to be covered if I left my equipment in the boot of the car (not covered by normal insurance).

Their terms and conditions are pretty good and easy to understand. And the chap I talked with was knowledgable.

Good hunting!

Don't trust household insurance if you want peace of mind, or your claim to happen with any urgency.

I'm with Towergate, and I've also used Infocus before that, and while I've never had to make a claim, I never heard anything bad about either.

This topic comes up from time to time and I would say that, anecdotally at least, people seem to have less problems getting claims paid with household insurers than with specialist companies. My gear is insured on my household insurance and when it was stolen in Barcelona they settled the entire claim, all new for old (even new model for old model in the case of a 580 EX II replacing a stolen 580 EX) without any questions, queries or quibbles in less than 2 weeks.

Of course, household insurance is not suitable for professionals who will need other benefits such as emergency equipment hire or public liability etc, but for the amateur I would always suggest at least looking into it.

I'm with infocus Insurance. Best T's and C's I could find.

Cllik Insurance - www.cliik.co.uk

If you're shooting at venues you need Public Liability and they provide that at £5m. Plus they cover kit in an unattended vehicle after 9pm which some don't. Also, excess is only £150 ALL claims. I had a chat with the bloke who runs it, Steve, as I was miffed when I found out one of the companies I asked for a quote told me there's was £200 but then when I saw the quote it said except in respect of claims for items stolen from an unattended vehicle. The excess rose to £500 for that!

Plus with Cliik got some decent freebies chucked in like Hired In Equipment up to £10k as I tend to hire stuff once or twic a year and Goods In Transit. never considered that but I do sent a lot of work by courier and pay £20ish a time to get the stuff insured with whoever I use.

Give them a try when you've rang the others, good premiums & good cover. Nice bloke to talk too as well. Met him at Focus as they had stand there, just a pleasant in person. There's a few on here (TP) vouching for Cliik as well so he must be doing something right!

I'm with Photoguard now and have over £9,000 covered for around £250 a year, with transport and unattended vehicle cover, equipment hire and a £250 total excess. Very easy to change items with them too when I've sold or added lenses etc. They also cover international travel and public liability as well.

Hi,
I've been with Towergate for about 8 years. They replace one burnt out PC (lightning surge) effortlessly. There are cheaper premiums out there, but they don't insure for as much, so cheaper for a reason I guess. I'm pro, so I needed cover for gear hidden in my car etc. They seem to provide a very good service, so I'd definitely recommend getting them to quote.

I have been checking the insurance after I bought a new camera last month.
I am with priviledge and my policy covers cameras under the personal possessions up to a limit of £2000 per item. Its new for old and does cover items left in a car as long as its out of site and force was used to enter the car.

So that looks fine for my amateur use.

Cheers guys..went with G+H in the end...£16,000 cover with 2mil PL, new for old, and in car cover etc..for just over 400 pa. quite abit cheaper than photoguard and some of the rest for what you get :)
