Err 01 Canon 17-85mm IS

Hi all

My 17-85mm has started showing err01 on my 50D and err99 on the 400D. I have given the lens contacts a clean but the error still shows. Opions on the likely cause and cost to fix would be appreciated.

I had what was probably the same issue a few weeks ago, had my lens back from repair about four weeks ago

Try turning off the IS see if it still shows the error code

For me it's started intermittently and progressed to the point that I couldn't take a photo :shrug:
 
Thanks mate. I've had a read through the thread and have the same symptoms as Daz (URDYGURDY). Did your lens show the viewfinder darkening too?
 
Not that I particularly remember but the weekend when it went I was particularly busy so I just moved to an alternate lens after it became apparent it was more that a random issue, what I do remember is it sounded like the shutter was only half operating :shrug:
 
Thanks, seems like time to decide to pay up to £150 to repair a four year old lens or to dig deep and replace.

That seems to be the choice there is nothing lost except maybe some p&p in sending it off the people that I used opened the lens and gave me a report on the fault, so it may be worth sending off :thumbs:
