ERR 05 on Canon 500D

The built in flash could not be raised. Turn off and on again.

So I did and it still wont work. Screen indicates lotsa juice on the battery. Any ideas on what I have done and how I can fix it?

It maybe due to the tiny micro switches in the hot shoe - if you look closely, you'll see a small micro switches just under the metal section of your hotshot - are they up or down - if you get a tooth pick and very carefully prize them up. If they are down, this tells the camera not to raise the in built flash.
