Error 99 on Canon 400D

Hi,

Firstly I am so disappointed with a lens I have just purchased, and I go on holiday on Saturday and with work in between, I cannot replace etc etc.

I am connecting a Tamron 10-24mm f/3.5-4.5 Di II to my 400D. When I turn it on, it gives a message of error 99.

I have tried the whole clean the gold connector of camera with an eraser but no prevail! :'(

Any help please!
 
All my other lens work fine, so the issue is communication with this lens I suppose.
 
No help but I got a brand new 60d and Brand new Tamron 18-270 delivered last week and I got err 99 as soon as I tried it. The lens was going crazy on the body. Body was fine with the other 3 lenses I've got. It's gone straight back awaiting replacement.
 
3rd Party lenses are designed to work with your body so there shouldn't be a problem in that respect.
 
The predicament I am in is that I go away this Saturday, so I am stuck! I don't have a wide angle lens!

The lens should work and the person who I bought it off says it works on their camera.
 
if worst comes you could tape over contacts on lens, and use it as a manual possibly...
could see if your camera has newest firmware, may or may not help
