Im trying to do an essay for my Photgraphy level 3 group, I really want to get a distinction but im worried that with the way my English is as im not very good at setting out documents, Im worried I wont get it.

I just need a little bit of help maybe how to set it out?

Sorry if i dont make sense :bonk::help:

The word distinction makes me think you are on an OCR qualification?

Do you have the specification handy for the unit you are studying?

I may be able to help - I'm a teacher of Key Stage 3, 4 and 5

It's hard to say without knowing what the brief for the essay is and how long it needs to be.
However, at its most basic, try breaking it down into 3 parts.

-An introduction, where you give a bit of background information and set the scene for what you're going to write about and why.

- The main body of the essay, where you explore the themes and topics that you want to talk about. Keep it logically structured and balanced - make sure that you talk about both positives and negatives.

- A conclusion, where you summarise the things that you've explored in the main body and draw out your final point of view.

If it's your English or grammar that worries you the most, make sure that you use a spellchecker in the first instance and also get somebody to proof-read it for you before submission.

And be sure it's set to British English :)

Well what Im doing is going over every subject, e.g at the start of the course we did this A - Z collage thing where we went around taking pictures of the alphabet but then cropping it within photoshop and making a collage.

n then second like artist research, and stuff like that, Its a Level 3 CG award..

If thats any help?

Hi Dan

If you let me know the course title, awarding body and level, I can call up the spec and give you advice from there. If it is a city and guilds qualification it is unlikely that SPG will prevent you for accessing the top levels.

Like Spooky said: with the course with the course details it would be easier to help,

Assuming it IS an OCR qualification, do you see it anywhere on this site?

http://www.ocr.org.uk/qualifications/a-z/index.html

(you may need to browse 'by type' or 'by subject' to find it if you are unsure about its exact name)

Sometimes the problem is that you are tring to decide what to say and how to say it at the same time.
I used Mind Maps or Spray diagrams to decide what I wanted to say - just grouping them as they seemed to fit best.
I would then go over the Mind Map with coloured pens / highlighters using different colours for the introduction, each section of the body and the conclusion.
By the time I had done that the essay almost wrote itself as I had cleared up in my mind what I knew and how I wanted to say it.

That's fine. I think I can find the spec from here. Will keep you posted on my understanding of it.

:plusone: I highly recommend a mind map. I always thought it was a silly waste of time until I decided to take it seriously once and do it properly. Invaluable for getting your thoughts in order.

I was introduced to them when I started OU. Tony Buzan's book "Use Your Head" was a recommended read, he called them Organic Diagrams then and changed the title to Mind Maps so he could register it.
As you say once you get used to them you can use them for anything.
