Evaluating different sized files

I want to do a side by side test of my new 1DmkIII and my 7D to see how the noise differs.

The 1D is 10.1mp and the 7D 18mp. What is the best way to reduce the file size of the 7D down to that of the 1D so that they can be view like for like?
What exactly should I be doing in PS and/or LR? (note I will be shooting raw for the test).

IMO, the best way to compare like for like is to compare a print from each file. Either camera should be capable of an A3 print or, if you feel that that's tretching one of them too far, use an A4 print. You may find that noise that looks horrendous at 200% on your monitor is all but invisible once printed.

That would be fine had I not just run out of ink. :(
