How many of you take printers with you to events and shows. Which printer would you recommend as a starting point?

I've been asked to attenda few shows taking photos of competitors and should anyone want a print there and then I'd like to be prepared.

Thanks in advance!

You really need a dye sub printer for events. They are far faster than inkjet and the prints are dry as soon as they are printed, so no waiting. Depends what size prints you want to offer. The smaller printers tend to print up to 9x6, using 6 inch wide rolls and the larger ones use 8 inch wide ones. The bigger ones are more expansive.

Have a look at Photo mart and System Insight for printers form DNP. HiTi and Mitsubishi among others.

I think 6x9 would be an ideal size as it's equestrian shows so would need to bea half decent size

They can be pricey but if you don't mind something a little bigger you can pick up used (ex-shop) ones on ebay. I got a Sony DR150 for £150 (it used to be in an Asda) which does 6x4 and 6x8. The print media isn't cheap, around £200 for 2 rolls and ribbons but you get 1100 6x4's or 550 6x8's out of it so you easily make your money back on the prints. My first event with it paid for the printer, print media and a new laptop! :)

Just looked at that those sonys and they don't look to bad. How do you rate it quality wise? Do you need two different rolls for both sizes or can you use the same roll for both being as your still printing at 6" one way or the other?
