Event set up??

My hubby wants me to photograph his event on monday evening, it will be an indoor darkish enviroment with flashing lights.
What settings would i need my camera on ( Canon 450D ) ? and what lens would be best? and on what settings?:|

How long is a piece of string and we will all have different answers.

Trial and error.

Manual white balance on the evening, though my son has a D3100, he's 17, and tests the various white balance pre sets and choses the best, he uses 19mm mainly, 800-1000asa, but to be honest if there are flashing lights and you have a decent flash, forget the lame built in flash, then just try auto with flash.

hi i shot my 1st band recently in a dark club with stage lights etc.I've a 450d also.I had to use 800 to 1600 iso and struggled with 70-200 2.8.Got some decent shots with 50mm @ 1.8. Trial and error and enjoy

what's the event? Snail racing and gymnastics are going to need different set ups

Its a gaming event, on huge screens...xbox etc.
Lots of loud drum and bass music
