Yes
Went out on Wednesday evening to the beach, took some shots & had iso on 1600 as the light was low. I'm still not overly sure what I'm doing yet so I was just having a play about.

Anyway, fast forward to yesterday (if that makes sense) & I'm out shooting doggy in some lovely gardens on a relatively sunny day. Then realised after half an hour that iso was still 1600 from the night before.

I was tired & went home :bonk:

Moral of the story? 1600 iso on a sunny day is overkill.

No camera shake on those shots then.:D around 2000 plus shutter speed.

I was always told that the last thing to do before you turn your camera off is to set it to aperture priority, f/8 and ISO 200, so if you do just turn on your camera and start shooting at least you have a somewhat average setting that will allow you to shoot straight away in normal conditions.

Been there, done that!

also;
left on tungsten - RAW helps but still a pain,
left on MF and wondered why it wouldn't AF,
wondering why the on-board flash doesn't fire (just touching my hat),
whizzing the exposure wheel +/- when there's no picture on the LCD to zoom in on,
my favourite the last couple of days is leaving it on 2sec timer and multiple exposure and then trying to take a single shot; get one correct and 4 naff.

I always switch on before going out to check I have battery and card.
Nowadays I always take 1 test shot when I arrive on site and check info, but all the above errors occur when I play with settings as I move around, and I'm sure ther's plenty of other errors I've not done yet.

hehe, some funny stories indeed.

That sounds like a plan AFC... I must check more thoroughly in future. Im sure once I get into the habit it will be like "second nature".

I must be honest it was drummed into me but I dont always do it.

I know practice what you preach....

Oh well, might as well join you :bonk: :bonk:

I dialled in some exposure compensation to deal with some frosty and snowy weather in the Highlands. Then I wondered why everything was underexposed subsequently.

D'oh!

It's easily done and the lesson sticks :)

dont know about the D90............

but i always press the 2 greens and set the defaults on my D5000

then alter image back to fine

the rest i select "on-site"

Fn button programmed to select WB

I stuck 10 second delay when I was doing some group shots at my uncle's party- then next few shots couldn't work out why my camera had "stopped working"..... beer does that to you.

RTFM......

ok - when you play around with the camera settings like
White Balance - if you are shooting flash
Picture Quality set to "landscapes"
ISO selected at 1600 because indoors

then the next day - you may forget all the settings you made so....

there are 2 buttons on the D5000 with a little green spot next to them

pressing these together for 2 secs - sets ALL the camera settings back to the factory defaults
so you can go out tomorrow and the camera wont give you stupid colour casts because you set the White Balance to "Incandescent" yesterday

it's all set back to the default values - up to you to change whatever for that days subjects....

I went to take pics of a fireworks display last week and decided to take my large tripod. I thought I'd remembered everything, batteries (both charged), memory cards, remote control, settings on the camera. :) Then when I went to set the tripod up, the head was on my other tripod. :bonk: :bonk:

Cue 10 minutes of trying to attach camera to a fence with the strap of the camera and tripod bag. :bang: I ended up with the camera leaning on the tripod bag, and wonky pictures as a result.

I've done the wrong WB, wrong ISO, EV left set wrong, timer left on, mirror lock up left on, forgotten memory cards. :bonk: And probably few other things as well that I've forgotten.

We have a winner!! lol..best yet.

I can only raise the iso to 6400, I think I got down to reducing the aperture to F16 before I twigged

Done the white balance, but its no biggie as I shoot raw, so only took a second to sort out in PP.

Yeah 2 button reset for me on the D300s too, then I just change a few things like setting it back to RAW and whatever other settings I want.

That's probably the best photography advice I've ever read. :)

Cheers Alex, as I said pity I dont practice what I preach......

Yes, I really will have to read the manual. I see a couple of green buttons on the camera. :geek:
