Ever Ready Camera Cases

Is there a modern equivalent to the old ever ready camera cases? I need something that will fit a Canon 400D with a kit lens. Something that enables you to get access to the camera without having to either get the camera out of a bag or find somewhere to put a case. This is for all those occasions when one does not need spare battery / extra memory card / alternative filters etc. Just open the case and take photographs.

I know it is possible to get the old hard ever ready cases for that model but I was wondering if there was a more modern equivalent around.

can't you still get them?I have one for a 50E that would probably fit a entry level body and kit lens

I don't see the point as the cameras are sturdy enough and a case is in the way, but that might just be me

Shame they don't seem to do one for the 5D mk II :'(

I always used ever-ready cases for my film cameras. I now use one of these which is almost as good, and fits the camera with a zoom lens attached - the only drawback being that it's not attached to the camera like an ever-ready case is. It works for me though, and keeps the camera safe. All my lenses and other kit goes in my rucksack.
