I bought a jacket online (not Amazon) and Evri was the courier. We were away when I received notification that it would be delivered the following day. I tried to delay delivery or use a neighbour without success. I then had an email to say it had been delivered with a photo of it behind our 6 foot side gate, showing the box damaged.

I reported this to Evri who apologised.

I phoned the retailer who stated that delivering to a safe place meant it was out of sight to the public. So it doesn’t matter that they damaged the box or that the jacket was left in the rain. Perhaps I am too fussy.

To be fair to the retailer they did say they would refund but I wanted the jacket in time for a funeral so I wouldn’t get a replacement in time. Lets hope it dries out in time.

I've had Hermes/Evri steal lose so many items over the last fourteen years that I now refuse to buy from retailers that use them.

Ebay sellers are the worst for it, so when I've no choice but to buy from them I always contact them first to ensure they DON'T use them. I'm happy to pay a little extra - at least I know I'll get it then.

I buy most things from Amazon and they always send stuff by Royal Mail or DPD now for just this reason . . .

I’m the same but sometimes the odd one slips through , but to be fair there all at it these days . Couple of weeks ago a £300 lens left behind the bin by Royal fail , the wife uses Amazon on a virtual daily basis and they can’t seem to recognise a door bell or even knock ,parcels usually left behind the bin..
The only reliable company with real time tracking and constant updates ,down to a “your next text” is DPD they have always been able to go the extra mile

You still have to be careful with Amazon, some of their listings don’t always make it clear that they’re “fulfilled by Amazon” (eg supplied by another retailer). I’ve had several things sent from Amazon that arrived (or mostly, didn’t! ) via Evri because I didn’t check properly.

the problem is on relatively low value items, when you’re shipping a lot of stuff Evri is more reliable and cheaper than Royal Mail. If you don’t use Special Royal Mail still just leave items on the doorstep. Even DPD do some days so even they’re not immune.

Unfortunately we need the big retailers to be having enough losses to complain to the shippers leaving on the doorstep is not delivered, but to us small guys they just shrug their shoulders.

Even complaining to Amazon the other week their driver had delivered to a bin just met with a shrug

All courier companies are doing the same now, the term delivered just means dumped.
Even royal mail are doing it, the biggest problem now is the high cost of vans/fuel and labour
it means that only one delivery attempt is factored in to the cost of shipping so there is no money in the
job to do a redeliver.

I pretty much always try to get my stuff sent to an access point now, i have two sets of those delivery box things within 200m of my house "in post" and evri can just put it in there, also my local PO is 400m so get RM redirected as well.

I agree that most are poor now, with odd exceptions. But this is nothing new,
Over 20 years ago I had a small package that Royal Mail were supposed to deliver to my studio. I found a "Sorry you were out" card through the door, checked the CCTV and saw the van stop outside, the driver got out, pushed the card through the door and was gone, without bothering to ring the doorbell. I had to go to their depot the following day, which wasted 1 1/2 hours, to collect it. I made a formal complaint, offering to supply the evidential CCTV, but they didn't even reply.

Back to today. I get things delivered to my town address from EVRI, the same guy always delivers, he's in tearing rush because he's under tremendous pressure, but is always 100% reliable, courteous and efficient, I can't fault him.

And, at our farm address, we get frequent deliveries from Royal Mail, same driver every time, again 100%, and there's a guy who delivers for Amazon in his own car, which I kind of assume is insured for business, again no problems at all.

But we also don't get deliveries from various other courier services, usually delivering urgent and expensive machine parts, they often simply don't turn up at all, and when we chase we're told that there was nobody at home - the CCTV proves that they didn't attempt delivery, the obvious truth of the matter is that they don't get paid enough to drive a few miles out of their way to a remote farm, and again their employers don't seem to care.

So, it all seems to be about the individuals, not their employers.
