A friend and myself have been thinking of putting on an exhibition, have any one on here done one?

Can you give us any pointers things to watch out for how did you do yours, what would you have done different?

Did you have your photos mounted and framed or just mounted?

did you have prices on them and do you sign them like painters do?

Any comments please

Thank you

not done one - but sooooo coming to yours, and I get to as many as I can.

You need to have a very defined focus (and no selling ****/picky up girls isn't a focus) which will kinda carry the photos as a set together (interestingly I have a thread on this too :p).

Are you looking to sell or to get your name known and pull in better clients? This will change your approach.

Are you working on your name? if so sign the mounts mention limited editions too.

I'd go mounted, frames can work but should suit the picture as they should suit the picture or the room and you won't see the room.

gallery lent me 50 frames of various sizes.. small through to extra large and i had the mounts made to measure.. small card beside every pic desciption of pic.. all themed. I had already sold my exhinition to cover cost of putting it on but gallery did ask if i wanted to put prices on.. that would have been on the card with the description

What sort of venue was it? and location?
I am guessing the venue is important as to who will see it.
What sort of cost did you have?

Location is key, im guessing your trying to make a name for your self so havent had much exposure yet so people are less likely to go out of their way to see your exhibition unless you give them something to draw them in. Try and give it an interesting name or theme and get something close to where people are! Usually art shops and the like will let you put up posters or postcards on their counters to help you get exposure for the exhibition (atleast thats the sorta thing ive done.) Get somewhere cheap to start with so you could afford to do more than one if its popular (or goes wrong, but it won't) and it'll help reduce costs, and you usually need to pay electricity on how much you use, but as there is two of you you can spread costs!

(Or find somewhere like a gallery that would do it all for you but takes a cut of sales!)

Hope that helps! I would put a small description next to each picture as well, describing what it is and the edition.
