EXIF lost..........

when i crop using adobe photoshop elements 2 do i lose the EXIF its only when i crop i save the same way everything the same just cropping effects the EXIF???:shrug:

When you're cropping are you moving the image to a new canvas at any point?

Because the EXIF will be 'attached' to the canvas as it were, not the image, so if part of your crop routine involves moving the image between canvases, you will lose EXIF.

I'd imagine then it's when you're doing the copy/new from clipboard stage.

I don't have elements, nor have I ever used, what does that achieve?

When you copy the image and paste it into a new canvas, it won't carry the info with it. Think of EXIF as like the back end of the file and the image as the front. When you copy and paste you only copy the bit you can see (the front) and the back, which has the EXIF, gets left behind.

Sounds like the EXIF isn't going anywhere, it's staying on the original image file - You are creating a new file and simply copying the cropped portion of the image to a blank 'canvas'. Not sure why you are doing this, I'd just crop it and save it as a different filename (xxxx_cropped.jpg for instance)

just crop the image using the crop tool.

the crop tool is there for doing just that: cropping.

the markey tool is great, but i wouldn't use it for cropping.
