other thread where it seems he's setting up some kind of business. If that's the case then buying from grey importers is a really bad idea, for two reasons.
One: VAT evasion is illegal and it's far easier for HMRC to detect when a business is doing it because of the need to file annual accounts. Plus the consequences for a business are far more serious than for a private individual, because it's harder to claim you didn't understand what you were doing. You really want to keep your books squeaky clean.
Two: As a business you're going to be reclaiming the VAT on your purchases anyway, and in that situation regular UK suppliers are nearly always cheaper. There are exceptions, but mainly only for newly-released equipment where UK suppliers keep their initial prices high for the must-have-it-now brigade to a greater extent than Far Eastern suppliers do.
