Explorer v.s Safari?

My laptop on a regular basis asks me whether I would like to download safari and give it a go, I've always declined; however what is the difference between the two?

Are there any advantages over safari? Are there a disadvantages? Or should I just not waste my time by downloading it and stick to explorer? - by the way, I'm yet to upgrade to the new explorer, is that worth doing instead?

Was just wondering peoples opinions, as when it comes to Pc's i'm not all that clued up. :thinking:

If you are using Windows... the best browsers are Firefox, Chrome, or Opera.

I wouldn't use Safari on Windows, and I have a justified hatred of IE. Download one or two, see what you like more.
 
Well I've just download IE9, and the layout is quite nice and clean. Got my favourites tabs back up and all seems quite nice.

If i just to find this hate you have for it Will, then I'll try one of the three you suggest :)

FF is bloated and leaky where memory usage is concerned. i did a little test a few weeks ago, i loaded up the latest downloads at the time of IE9, FF and Chrome with a single tab open and then just left them for about an hour.

IE9 - Started at 28mb and then went down to 17mb
Chrome - Started at 6mb and stayed there
FF - Started at 42mb and gradually rose to 88mb until i got bored

completely unscientific i know but its quickly turning into a horrible piece of software. that said i still use it on my work laptop to separate out personal and work browsing.
 
Yes, Chrome appears to be the informed persons choice of browser at the moment...

I don't use FF much.

I use Opera, and I'm not changing anytime soon. ;)

Also, memory usage isn't everything, the latest version of Opera uses about 258mb on my PC, (that's not the standard amount for one tab and no features turned on, not bored enough to check that.)

I've really gone off Chrome, although I still use it. It doesn't play nicely with my Work email (Outlook Web App - it downloads all attachments as .aspx and the wrong file name) and the Procurement system (Oracle) just does not work in Chrome - I still have to go back to FF for both of those.

Chrome would be pretty much perfect if it was more compatible - which it hopefully will be improved.
 
i use safari on my mac and PC, its ok on PC but sometimes you get reminded it was really for mac, id go with Crome, probably by far the best on windows and if i wasn't used to safari id have no question about switching

Chrome for me......... especially as I use a lot of the google tools; Gmail, Picasa, Google Docs, Blogger etc.....

I have it on my PC at work, PC at home and Macbook at home..... you can have it remember settings etc by logging into the browser and each incarnation remembers/syncs them.
 
I quite liked Safari on the PC - apart from the fact it would crash on me fairly regularly....
 
We have a Apple iMac, Macbook Pro and use safari, prefer it miles more than Explorer, would'nt recommend running it though on a pc, use firefox thats better than explorer.
 
I tend to use Chrome on my MacBook, the only time I really tend to use FF is for FTP'ing with the FireFTP.

Safari just doesn't seem quite so 'on it' as Chrome :)
 
IE8 is fine but not tried IE9. Sleipnir is OK too, but Firefox is my current favourite.

On Apple Safari is great, but I've used it on PCs and it is less so. Chrome uses the same webkit engine and is great on a PC.

There's no best browser out there. They're just different.

IE gets hated a lot because it's Microsoft, and because they have a history of not adhering properly to web standards - though the latter won;t bother the user too much. The new ones are actually pretty good. I prefer them to Firefox from a user point of view.

Firefox is simply not what it used to be. Some great add-ons if you use them...but that's partly the problem. It used to be a nice simple browser that's now just become bloated, and lives from an outdated reputation.

Chrome is my current favorite. Very simple. Very fast. No bells and whistles, though it does have very good support of new web technologies.

Opera is probably the most overlooked. A very good browser. But you'll come across a lot of sites not displaying correctly as very few developers actually check in Opera, unfortunately. It needs more love.

Safari. Great support for new web technologies. Built on the same platform as Chrome. Quite similar. Though quite honestly, it's the one I've used the least for no particular reason, so can't really comment too much. Yes, it's reportedly better than on a mac....never had any problems myself in IE.

One thing about IE. Because it's the most popular, it's the one that gets attacked the most. Any vulnerabilities quickly get exposed...and yes, they get patched if you do regular updates....but something to think about.

I very rarely experience any compatibility problems in Opera, although some do exist.

So far, I've had more in IE9 due to the changes in the browser.

That's probably true. IE are going all out on the browser front at the minute and they're a real pain the backside for testing in, since there's people out there still using IE 6 and you can't install multiple versions on one machine.

It's just something I've always noticed in Opera.

I'm really not a great fan on my Mac I have to say, much prefer Chrome.

I thought I'd read somewhere that apple were going to up the game with Safari with the new OSX due out, any truth in this I wonder.
 
There are some cool new features, like reading list, which I will use a lot, but speed & stability are the really important things.
 
Ah... just stumbled across something thats quite annoying. Since, downloading and using IE9 i noticed something not right with the computer; but didn't really think anything about it. However, switched it on today, and it went immediately into self repair. Once this was completed i turn it all back on, and... IE9 is now back to IE8 and the other Microsoft download had also reversed. Could this be related to installing IE9? Or just a general glitch?

Very unlikely to be caused by installing IE9.

Does the problem seem to be resolved?
