Has anyone any experiences good or bad with the above tool?
 
Bad: Expensive and lost it. Also, someone on here said a Pringles top will do the job. Of course using a card will also get the job done.

Good: Works a treat, which is handy if taking jpegs only. There are two types IIRC, Neutral and Warm. I used the warm one as this better suited my needs for portraiture.

If you shoot Raw it is not needed at all, as full adjustment is available in the processing.

I agree but when one has a large amount of RAW files to process it is rather labour intensive. It is just that I am trying to speed up the process.

That's not really true develop one and save/copy a preset I do it in Lightroom all the time. What it would give you is more accurate WB out of the camera. Have you considered a colour checker passport? They seem to be more than a one trick pony to me?
 
I use Colorchecker Passport, it really speeds things up. Last weekend I was second shooter for a friend's wedding, I covered the setup, hair, makeup etc, and from the reception through to first dance and disco. Shooting two bodies, with and without flash spread over five rooms in a variety of lighting (natural, flash, bright indoor, dark disco lighting) white balance could have been a nightmare. As it was at each change of room, or lighting, I got my girlfriend (the bridesmaid) just to hold up the colorchecker, a quick shot and done, 10 seconds and done.

When I got home I was able to batch correct the white balance on each set of images in seconds in Capture One Pro, seriously, 5 minutes maximum to correct 600 shots.

It folds up neatly, slips inside a jacket pocket and is very quick to use. You can also select a warm up or cool down patch depending on what effect you want to achieve.
 
Looking at the price of that think I'd rather have an expo disc tbh,. similar price, but no bridesmaid required. :D
 
It's just a very expensive white balance tool. Similar to the ones on ebay for a fiver, though there are plenty of other ways of doing it, starting at a cost of zero.

No magic invloved, it's just an 18% grey diffuser.

I thought you'd turn up sooner or later. :D

Of course you are right. But if the high price of the expo-disc was not an issue, (which it is!), it is a very simple and effective tool to use, esp when in mixed lighting, i.e. flouresant, incandecent, window light. I had a lastolite grey card thingy, but found the expo more quicker and reliable in some situations.
I know you are now going to show up my in-competence, but as it'syou I don't mind. ;)

To the OP. If you listen to anyone listen to Hoppy. And this is not a jibe/joke, he really is the guy who knows his stuff. :thumbs:
