I have managed to get my photos into a mess :$

I have them saved everywhere! Part of the problem is that I have an iPad and therefore end up saving to different sites ie. Flickr, Dropbox

Now I have come to print them in a shop using a USB it is proving a right pain.

Please can someone recommend a better way of doing this. Is there an external hard drive That will allow me to export straight from camera but still allow me to edit using my iPad?

What a mess I have got into!

Maybe jailbreak would allow me to upload to iPad, then from there to USB?

It's all about having a workflow and sticking to it.

Tbh I don't really find the iPad great for editing, it's very good for a quick pass through for making picks/rejects, etc.

If you only have an iPad, my advice would be to keep all images in the photos app and if you want to put them on Dropbox/Flickr export them from there.

With regards to printing you can plug your iPad in via USB and the pictures imported from your camera should be available.

I don't think the iPad is the issue as such, more that you're not using it as it's intended. iPads are not storage devices, they're cloud based devices, so passing pictures through them on their way to a cloud is fine, but trying to keep your shots on it isn't going to work, if only because you'll soon fill it up, especially if you're shooting in raw.

I think the real problem is that, as Lewis says, you need a workflow. Uploading from camera to iPad to review and share is fine. Uploading from there to your cloud of choice is also fine. Uploading to a series of different clouds, with no real method to it, isn't so good :)

If you trust your cloud completely, upload to there for storage and retrieval when you want to print etc, thinking of it as your external hard drive, then keep the iPad clear of all but the photo's you want to review/show people. But, pick one cloud and stick to it!

If, wisely, you DON'T completely trust your cloud service, either upload to two (but stick to those two and be consistent), or upload from the camera to a computer separately to the iPad.

There are hard drives that will read camera cards directly, and there are also wifi hard drives that will be seen by an iPad. However both are expensive, and neither will allow you to save stuff from the iPad to the disk.

Android tablets do a better job of allowing stuff to be saved to external drives etc, but I'd never choose one just because of that, as once you have a workflow it's simply not a problem.

Yep, you can jailbreak then use an external hard drive if that really is your only option.
