Exposure lock on Canon 40D?

Hi,
I left my 40D manual back at home (in Uni at the moment) and can't for the life of me work out if the 40D has an exposure lock? If so how do I access it?

Possibly the little '*' button just above where your thumb sits? The same as zooming out when reviewing I think....
