The Kenko DGX Pro 300 1.4x TC should be OK on a 1 series body. Depends on your lens copy though, mine isn't that great wide open.

The only reason I would change it for the Canon version is because it would complete weather proofing in my kit.
Much depends on what body you are going to mount it.
As said above the 300 DGX works on a 1D body as does a Canon 1.4 Mark II.
I have had very limited success with the 300 DGX on a 7D with the 100-400. If the light is very good it works if the light is not so good its so hit and miss that I simply dont bother now.

The 100-400 isn't weather sealed anyway.
I use the 1.4ex ii Canon extender with the 100-400, you've still got AF, though centre point only, on a 1 series and it works well.

Quite correct, that's just one of the reasons I no longer have one although I'm not knocking it.
I mostly use a 500mm F4 and an extender with my 1D and given the weather in this country a day that starts off sunny frequently finishes with me and my gear sopping wet in a muddy field.

I used a Kenko Pro200 DGX 1.4x with a 100-400 on a 550D, 7D, 5D2 and 3 and all have retained a decent speed and accurate AF. It also reports the aperture correctly on the camera body while the AF performs.
I picked the Kenko as it was compatible with most of my lenses whereas the Canon converter was only compatible with the 100-400. I've got a Canon MkIII 2x converter as well but I only ever use my Canon 70-200 f2.8 MkII lens with it. The Canon MkIII 1.4x converter is an excellent with the 100-400 on a 1D body as well, just about 3 times the price.
