Extenders

Can anyone tell me if a Canon EF 2x Extender is compatitable with any lens, or is it only for using with L lens??

I am a little confused as to how the extender works...does it magnify everything x 2??

If I am looking to get further reach with my 75-300 EF-S would the extender work? I am worried that the quality of my lens isn't good enough

No it won't work with your lens. See here for compatible lenses:

A teleconverter increases the focal length of a lens. So a 2x teleconverter fitted to a 200mm lens gives a focal length of 400mm.

A TC works by magnifying the image. However, it also magnifies any flaws in the image. The 75-300 image quality isn't too good to start with. So, even if you could stick a TC on it you probably wouldn't like the results.
