Extension Tubes for macro

They can be fun to use, and yes they do work with zooms and macro lenses too.
I bought a set of Meike AF tubes [£50 on amazon] - I had a cheaper set that had no contacts in the past, but they fell apart quick. The little screw that locks the tube onto the lens snapped without being under any pressure. You are better off to get an AF set, this way you get aperture control on you camera. You get AF too obviously, but it's sluggish and you'll end up working in manual anyway, but the build quality is better on AF sets.
I threw a video together when I first tested mine [tested a tamron 17-50 2.8 and a Nikon 80-200], just out of boredom:

I now have a 105mm micro lens, and have tested the tubes attached to it. They work fine, and get you in closer than 1:1

sounds brilliant, thanks for that I have a 100mm macro lens already, and wondered if these would get me in closer. I was looking at the ones to get the aperture control as it makes life so much simpler.
The ones I saw may well have been the same as yours - which was a good start !

The Meike ones are plastic, but as you see in that vid I've attached all 3 and a pretty heavy 80-200 lens. They are sturdy enough. You just have to make sure to keep hold of the lens rather than the body if not both.
Polaroid make a set very similar too. Both are much cheaper than the Kenko ones. Only difference is the build quality.
