extension tubes

hi all

Just had some delivered off ebay only cheap no af, ordered some kenko af just waiting on them turning up. i thought i,d put the tubes on and see what use they where, but i can hardly see anything through the lens!!. the image in my view finder is very dark i have read that you may lose some light but this is difficult too actually see the image you want to photograph. Can anybody with experiance using these tubes please help?

Are you viewing at maximum aperture?

Mick, it's much easier if you're using a fully manual lens. The problem is to get any DOF you have to stop down the lens. If you're using an auto aperture lens, you stop down prior to removing it, thus severely restricting the light. I did use a set of these rings with a manual lens for a while, but stopped when I got the Raynox, they were just to hard.

I have Jessops extension tubes and there is no glass in them and they do not affect what I see through the viewfinder. Also very little light loss because there is no glass for the light to go through they just put the lens a bit further from the sensor so yours are obviously different to mine!

Thanks for reply,s i was using the nikon kit lens.
the tubes where a £5 so no real loss, i,m hoping the kenko af will be fine as they cost me £80.
I did read that they where didfficult too use, you live and learn!!!
