External drive back up

I have 500gb Western this will only run off one of the rear usb ports as not enough power to run from a front port used to back up my computer.

I want to add another Hard drive as a secondary back up and put all my photos on the first instead of clogging up the computer.

Daisy chain, can I just connect these via usb leads or will I need a powered usb hub as this is what my research suggests I need

do you not have any more USB ports? if not then yes a hub will work.

What do you mean by mains powered? Internal?

If you're using a desktop then use an internal drive on the SATA interface. It'll be a lot cheaper and a hell of a lot faster.

If you're using a laptop with an Expresscard slot then get an eSATA Expresscard and an eSATA docking station and a 3.5" drive.

Yes I should be considering that option as well
